WASH NIGHT: 6 weeks post

I’m currently 6 weeks and 4vdays post relaxer. This week’s wash day was full of me trying new things. New product, new technique and new hair tool.

I got myself the “Dark and Lovely Amla Legend Rejuvenating Ritual” Hair mask about a week ago. Abena of ghanaianemprezz.com always had good things to say about this mask, so I had to try it. And yesterday, after researching for about a week, I bought myself a “Hair Therapy Wrap.’’ I decided to get this because school starts and this would make this easy to deep treat my hair while on campus. And I used it for this wash day because, once I got something new, I got to play/use it.

Wash Day:

  • First, I pre-pooed with coconut oil for almost 2days because, I was feeling quite lazy, and I didn’t really have any place to go.

  • I shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo, because, I felt the need to clean my scalp real good.
  • Did an oil rinse*new technique* by applying coconut oil on my hair strands.
  • Then I did a medium protein treatment with ORS Mayonnaise, put on my thermal wrap *new tool*(yay) and finished an episode of Orange Is The New Black for about 25 minutes, the rinsed out.

  • Rinsed out, and applied the Amla Legend Mask *new product*on my strands and used my thermal wrap again.

  • Rinsed it out and then used my wide tooth comb as the water flowed through my hair.
  • Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt to soak up the excess water, and then applied my leave in: Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in cream and air dried in twists.
  • Moisturised with Elasta QP Mango Butter Moisturizer. It made a section of my hair feel hard, the rest felt fine. (If you have any idea why this happened, please leave a comment)

I didn’t seal last night as I moisturized and sealed this morning before getting back in my cornrows.
Over all, my hair felt great. strengthened but not lacking in moisture.

Ms Direction Healthy Hair Challenge!!!!!!!!

Hey lovelies!!!! So I have decided to come to you with A HEALTHY HAIR CHALLENGE!! This is my very first challenge and it’ll run on the blog, my Facebook page and Instagram (with hashtag: MsDirectionHHJ). The aim if this challenge is to become more familiar and used to healthy hair practices, as well as make this healthy hair journey a lifestyle for most. The challenge will run for 6 months, and commences on 1st January 2015 and ends 31st June 2015. If I find that the challenge serves the purpose it was created for, I’ll gladly extend or restart it. I want this challenge to be more focused on healthy hair rather than length growth. Once the hair and scalp are healthy, length WILL follow. There will NOT be a prize at the end of this challenge but I do hope a positive transformation at the end of the challenge will be more than enough encouragement.

RULES OF THE CHALLENGE
1.       Scalp should be kept clean as frequently as possible, at most once a week, and at least every two weeks for my ladies in protective styles or starting the journey afresh.
2.       A sulfate free shampoo is recommended. However if you do not have one, it is mandatory to pre-poo (pre-shampoo treatment) before every wash day.
3.       Always condition your hair after washing either with an instant conditioner or moisturizing or balanced deep conditioner (A deep conditioner is more recommeded).
4.       Always detangle before wash day.
5.       Always moisturize and seal in the moisture as often as required (A daily M&S routine does wonders for length retention).
6.       Scalp massages with an oil of choice at least 3 times a week to boost circulation and in turn promote growth.
7.       Mild protein treatment once a month and a hard protein treatment every 2 months. At the end of the challenge you should have done 3 hard protein treatments.
8.       Air dry after washday or use indirect heat. i.e a hooded dryer.
9.       NIGHT TIME ROUTINE! ALWAYS sleep with your hair covered with a silk or satin bonnet or head scarf
10.   Keep your ends tucked in 70-90% of the time

KEEP YOUR ENTIRE BODY HEALTHY BY:
·         Drinking loads of water at least 1500 ml and at most 3000ml. You can do more if you need to or want to
·         Cutting down on junk food.
·         Getting an exercise routine

The Internet and HealthyHair Journeys

On my healthy hair journey I have come to really appreciate the internet. The internet has been a major source of information. Through the internet I have been able to come in contact with, and share experiences with ladies world wide. by going on Google and watching videos on YouTube, I have found solutions to my hair problems. By reading the blog post of ladies on their healthy hair journeys, I have come to know that I am not alone. I have also come to know support and made friends with people.
The Internet also, just keeps getting better. And recent times have seen the rise of apps. Yes! APPS EVERYWHERE. From the Google PlayStore, On Apple, on Windows. Everything is run on apps. I intend on and I'm taking full advantage of this for my hair journey. I'm going to show you how.
1. I use my Google Search app for everything. I search for DIY recipes, I search for Product reviews before I buy any new product, and I search for new tips and tricks for hair growth and retention. YES! I do that.

2. YouTube!!!!! I love love love YouTube. Watching the videos feels like I'm getting first hand information. Some of these YouTubers are so warm and they know exactly what they talking about. I watch everything hair related on youtube. I love YouTube hair progress videos, relaxer updates, D-I-Ys, Big Chops, wash day, hair tutorials everything. BTW I stated my own YouTube. Y'all gotto check it. Pretty please.

3. Instagram!!!! Now that's my jam. (I just totally rhymed) It is an app, which offers you the chance to share your progresses and setbacks though images. It has some great support and if you follow the right page, it has tons of information. Beware though, some people can bite. Yikes! But i love this app.

4. Water Your Body! Now I have a problem drinking water. And it is important to drink water not just for your hair journey, but overall health. I was introduced to this app by a lovely lady called Fungi, and I absolutely love it. The great thing about this app is that, it takes your weight and calculates how much water you need. You can however increase it to your preference. You can turn on and off notifications for reminders. It is a great app hands down and very very useful. Do download it from your app stores.

5. The Hair Diary and The Hair Journal. 2 different apps. Similar features. Few Differences. The Hair Journal, I bought from the playstore, however, I hear there is a free one available on apple devices. I love it. Well, loved it till, THE HAIR DIARY. I prefer the format. 1 keep both though. The Hair Dairy is free to download int the app store. (I'm getting lazy.....lol)
